Japan, summer, 2006: told that June is Japan's rainy season, I spent a lot of the time eyes to the sky, wondering when the thick gray humid clouds would come unhinged and douse everyone patiently waiting at DON'T WALK signs in Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and throughout the Izu Peninsula.

Turned out Japan really only has a Cloudy Season. Meteorological epiphany achieved, I went back to looking down at the Nihonese pavement, and there at my feet was the most marvelous manwomanpersonhole cover.
Do the Japanese ignore these works of art as much as we in the West?
